How Does COVID-19 Affect Your Job Search?
With the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, causing concern and closures, many businesses are operating remotely. With so many people out of the office, it is understandable to feel anxiety about the status of your job search.
Rest assured, The Reserves Network is still working for you! We are conducting interviews, placing candidates and paying our current employees.
When you visit our offices
As a precautionary measure, we ask that you wash/sanitize your hands upon arriving for your interview. Hand sanitizer will be provided and all work stations and interview rooms will be wiped down before and after interviews.
Additionally, while it may feel awkward, no hand shake is necessary, as it is important to reduce physical contact. We promise it’s not you, it’s COVID-19.
If you feel sick, video interviews are an option.
It is 2020, after all! Zoom, FaceTime… we have you covered. Keep in mind that a video interview is still a job interview and should be approached as such. Below are some tips to help you prepare.
Before your scheduled interview:
- Complete all paperwork.
- Ensure the area around you is free from visual and noisy distractions.
- Have a reliable source of Wi-Fi.
- Test your headset/microphone and video quality before the interview to ensure they are working, open and ready to receive calls.
- Use your computer or phone camera to make sure there is enough lighting so the interviewer can see you clearly.
Have these things close by:
- Pen and paper
- Job description
- A copy of your resume with a list of job relevant accomplishments highlighted
- Any questions you have
- A calendar, should a second interview be requested
What to wear:
Dressing professionally for a video interview matters just as much as a face-to-face one. This not only puts you in the right mindset, but also increases your confidence. Make sure you’re dressed appropriately from head to toe in case you must stand at any point during the interview.
What to expect during this time
Whether your interview in person or over video, please keep the following in mind:
- Expect delays. Some clients may be working from home so it may take longer to get responses and to schedule client interviews.
- All paperwork must be completed before you can be submitted to a client.
This is a frustrating and unprecedented situation, but we are all in this together. Remember to be kind, professional and patient.
