The Reserves Network Continues Support for Hike for Hope
On Saturday, April 13, 2024, The Reserves Network (TRN) participated in the 2nd annual Fort Bend Hike for Hope as an event sponsor, in collaboration with the Connor Bowen Foundation. This was the second year TRN and the Connor Bowen Foundation has supported and taken part in this important event. Â
What is Hike for Hope?
Hike for Hope is an annual 5k walk and fundraiser organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). The goal is to raise funds for suicide prevention, research, advocacy, education, and support for individuals and families.
During the walk, participants were able to gather, visit with sponsors, and observe a moment of silence. They hugged, cried, and shared their stories, all while wearing honor beads to pay tribute to a loved one lost, a personal struggle, or a victory.
This Year’s Event a Success
This year’s event was a tremendous success. With the help of 65 teams and 714 participants, $65,348.39 was raised for suicide prevention.Â
TRN and the Connor Bowen Foundation were proud to sponsor Hike for Hope and help raise these critical funds. Together, our two organizations contributed $1,820 to the AFSP.
A Critical Cause
Suicide is a grave issue that impacts far too many lives. It is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States. Nearly 48,000 people died by suicide in 2021. Hike for Hope is an important way for communities to come together, raise awareness, and show support for suicide prevention.
There are many ways to get involved in advocating for suicide prevention. You can educate yourself on the warning signs, reach out to someone in crisis, or volunteer or donate to organizations like the AFSP. Every effort makes a difference in this critical cause.
Events like Hike for Hope give hope and resources for those impacted by suicide, while also raising vital funds. Through continued collaboration and advocacy, we can all work to reduce the devastating impact of suicide and connect people to the help they need. Every contribution, whether time, money, or voice, makes a difference.
How to Seek Help
Getting help is a sign of strength. There is no shame in reaching out for support when you need it. If you or someone you know needs help, or is in crisis, it’s important to get help immediately. Call or text the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988, or text TALK to 741741 to talk with a trained crisis counselor.
