- Assist pathologists in the dissection and preparation of human tissue specimens for analysis.
- Perform gross examination of surgical specimens to identify pathology and document findings.
- Prepare tissue samples for further processing, including embedding in paraffin or other preservation methods.
- Accurately document patient and specimen information in laboratory information systems.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of specimen handling and processing.
- Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by cutting, staining, and mounting slides.
- Ensure that all specimens are processed according to established protocols and quality control standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., biology, health sciences, or medical laboratory technology).
- Master's degree in pathology assistant
- Completion of a Pathologists’ Assistant program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is required.
- Previous experience in a pathology laboratory setting or healthcare-related field is desirable.
- Familiarity with gross anatomy, histology, and pathology procedures is advantageous.
- Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA(ASCP)) is required.
- Complete a NAACLS accredited program
- Located in the Medical Center – Park & Ride or Metrorail accessible.
- Work Schedule: Flexible, PRN – day schedule (7a-4p, 8a-5p or 9a-6p)
