Job Description:
Join a compassionate team dedicated to providing quality animal care in a fast-paced shelter environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the clinic’s medical program by providing daily animal care, assisting with treatments and procedures, and educating pet owners on responsible pet care. This hands-on role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a passion for animal welfare.
Responsibilities:
- Perform daily animal husbandry and clinical care for pets under medical treatment
- Clean, organize, and stock medical work areas and surgical equipment
- Document treatments, diagnostics, and observations in shelter software
- Administer and dispense medications according to veterinary treatment plans
- Obtain and perform diagnostic testing and assist with radiography, treatments, and preventative care
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 4 months of experience in an animal care or shelter environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced shelter setting with exposure to animal allergens, loud noises, and temperature changes
- Must be able to stand, sit, bend, lift, and stoop for extended periods
- Ability to lift and restrain animals or other objects up to 50 pounds
- Flexible schedule with availability for weekend rotations
- Must wear color-matching scrub uniforms, closed-toe slip-proof shoes, and utilize computer and veterinary medical equipment
